It’s show time!

Once again, Insurewise was delighted to support a local community event – The Werrington Show – that took place on Saturday 19th August 2023.

Our Marketing Manager, Jackie Hall, popped along to take a look at all the amazing entries from people within the PE4 postcode area including horticulture, floral designs, cookery, preserves, art, handicrafts and photography.

The trophies all lined up ready for the presentation.

Here’s what she had to say.

It’s Show Time!

“The sun was shining when I walked along to the Werrington Village Hall on a lovely Saturday afternoon in August.  As soon as I arrived at the door,  I was given a warm welcome from Fi Beveridge, one of the organisers and member of the Show Committee.

I remember when I was much younger, probably about 13 or 14, I entered  my  lovingly prepared Victoria Sponge into one of the bakery categories.  It was at this early age I realised that baking cakes isn’t as easy as it looks as my cake resembled a Jammy Dodger compared to the other cakes on display.  Fortunately, my ‘miniature garden on a plate’ entry faired better, and I achieved a position for this creative offering.

Although that was many years ago,  it’s great to see the Show remains one of the key events in the local community calendar as this year it celebrated its 74th year anniversary.   It’s success is a testament and thanks to the planning and enthusiasm of the Show Committee and those who  live in the local area who enter into the different categories.

I couldn’t help but be “wowed” by the high standard of entries on display, and it required the combined skills of the judges of the popular TV programmes The Sewing Bee, Gardeners World, the Great British Bake Off and a range of Sky Arts’ programmes.

The beautiful display of flowers, fruit and vegetables looked amazing, and the talented local arts and crafts people showcased their talents.  The cakes and other baked items looked and smelt wonderful and the photographs were simply stunning.  It was also good to see people of all ages take part in the Show, attracting people from the PE4 area and beyond to visit this event.

It must have been a hard job for the judges to select the winners, but they managed to do that and I had the pleasure of presenting the trophies, including the Insurewise Cup, to those who had been selected “the best” in their category.

And the winner of the Insurewise Cup went to Holly French.
